Code Compliance Officer
The City of Andalusia is accepting applications for Code Compliance Officer. Employee is assigned to the Planning and Development department and will work under the administrative direction of the Director and Assistant Director of Planning and Development. The employee is responsible for the technical and specialized work in enforcing municipal, state, and federal laws and regulations related to public safety, property maintenance, sanitation and health, building and safety, and abatement. Responsibilities involve physical review of conditions in the field as well as providing assistance to homeowners, tenants, and the business community in understanding related laws and regulations. Typical assignments involve inspection of residential, commercial and industrial buildings and vacant lots, researching approved conditional uses of properties, issuing violation notices, and responding to citizen complaints and inquiries. Work is performed under general direction of the Director with initiative, discretion, and independent judgment in the performance of duties based on knowledge of City policies, procedures and operations. Employee will be available to serve as police officer during emergencies and special events. Police work would be on an as needed basis.
QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of training and/or experience equivalent to:
- Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent.
- Possess an Alabama Peace Officer’s Standards and Training Commission certification.
- Possess a valid Alabama driver’s license as issued by the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
- Ability to be certified as a Property Maintenance Inspector through a recognized certification program within twenty-four months of employment.
- Ability to work non-standard hours, weekends and holidays.
- Ability to re-certify in firearms on a biannual basis.
