The Covington Historical Society meeting will be held at 7 p.m. tonight, in the Dixon Memorial Room of the Andalusia Public Library.
The early life and military service in WWII of the late Dr. William G. Cumbie will be presented by his daughter, Caroline Cumbie Picking. Her mother may have a part, too, in this presentation.

Troy Brown and Scott Brown will open the doors to Zaxby’s Monday. The new restaurant is located at 1000 River Falls St., near the Covington Mall Shopping Center. Zaxby’s will operate from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.

A press conference is set for 2 p.m. today in Andalusia City Hall.
The event was announced by the mayor’s office last week, and is set for the second floor.
The announcement said the press conference is regarding investigation into the conduct of certain employees of the Andalusia Utilities Board.
Two weeks ago, Mayor Earl Johnson acknowledged in a written statement that he has asked the Andalusia Police Department to conduct an investigation into the conduct of a number of sewer and water department employees.

The Fourth of July will be celebrated in Covington County with a bang, with firework shows scheduled in Andalusia and Opp.
Andalusia’s tourism and relocation committee will host a community-wide celebration at the Kiwanis fairgrounds, with musical entertainment by Michael Kelley and Kat Dean, Christian Wossilek and the Ric McNaughton Band.
Gates open at 4:30 p.m. Music begins at 5 p.m.. and fireworks will begin at 8:30 p.m.
Concessions will be available; however, free watermelon slices will begin at 5 p.m. until the last slice is gone.
