The Mutt-Butt Wash fundraiser held Saturday by the Andalusia Animal Shelter raised approximately $1,000.

“It went really well,” said animal shelter employee Kayla Cleland. “We had some really cool new customers, as well as our long-time customers, and some who didn’t even bring dogs, just a donation.”

The Animal Shelter, in exchange for a donation, washed, cleaned and groomed about 35 dogs.

They also adopted four pit bulls, which Cleland said was amazing.

“We would like to start holding this event about four times a year,” said Cleland. “It was a big success.”

She thanked employees from the Andalusia Animal Clinic who came and helped with the event.

The animal shelter is located at 101 Coliseum Ave.

The ideas for the floats are different Christmas movies.

“We pulled the community together and gathered ideas,” said Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce Assistant Director Maggie Jones. “This idea had the most following. It also has a lot of versatility between classic Christmas movies and newer Christmas movies. We are looking forward to seeing the creativity people express in their floats.”

The parade date has been set for Thurs., Nov. 30.

The application for sign-up will be available at the Andalusia area Chamber of Commerce sometime next week.

Jones also said that she will be posting the application on the Chamber of Commerce’s social media platforms.

The Andalusia Animal Shelter is holding its first ever Mutt-Butt Wash on Sat., Aug. 26, at 10 a.m.

The animal shelter will accept monetary donations and will in turn provide dogs with a bath and (if they can behave through it) will also trim the dogs’ nails, said Animal Shelter employee Kayla Cleland.

“We invite everyone with or without pooches to come on out and donate to the AAS medical fund,” said Christin Ball of the shelter. “We will be out washing away all the mud, dirt and unhappiness from your furry friends.”

The animal shelter will also be doing animal adoptions as a part of the Mutt-Butt Wash.

Donations received will go to different necessities for the animal shelter, including vaccines and supplies for the animals and the shelter.

The event will go on until 2 p.m.

For more information call the Andalusia Animal Shelter at 334-222-8705.

The animal shelter is located at 101 Coliseum Ave.

“You will leave with a great smelling pup and joy in your heart for donating to such a worthy cause,” Ball said. “It’s strictly donations, but we would like it to at least be $5 and better. So come on out and bring your family and let’s have a ‘pawty’ and get some relief from these dog days of summer.

Local 4-H officials are seeking support from the City of Andalusia to expand services offered to local students.

Extension Agent Chuck Simon and area 4-H director Katie Lee addressed the council Tuesday night in search of funding to hire an additional part-time 4-H director to work in Andalusia Junior High School and the APPLE after school program.

Lee said 4-H is being changed at the national level, and the organization is working hard to be very hands-on. At present, she works with 18 classes at Andalusia Elementary each month.

In addition to the activities, 4-H Clubs introduce students to parliamentary procedure, she said. Activities have included trips to the Conecuh National Forest, fishing, cooking, showing animals at the county fair, and learning to kayak.

Mayor Earl Johnson said the council would consider the proposal.
