Pic-N-Save is relocating to the old Wal-Mart building.
The grocery store, a Food Giant company, is currently located in the Covington Mall. Construction plans show said the new store is expected to be twice its current size and include a deli.
Pic-N-Save was the last tenant needed to complete the shopping complex at the old Wal-Mart location. The site currently houses Marvin’s Building Supply Store and Tractor Supply.
Pic-N-Save’s sister store, Cost Plus, located on East Three Notch, will remain in its current location; however, plans are underway for a total renovation project inside the store, local store officials said.
Construction has begun at the new site, but no move date has been set.
Attempts to reach the store’s corporate office were unsuccessful.
Andalusia’s Dollar Tree store is expected to open April 18, store officials said Friday.
Chelle Davis, Dollar Tree spokesperson, said the grand opening is tentatively set for the April date.
“Dollar Tree continues to grow and is proud to be part of the Andalusia community,” Davis said.
The 8,286-square foot store is located on Dr. MLK Jr. Expressway in the former Burkes location next to Winn-Dixie. Davis said that based on the size of the Andalusia store, there will be 10 to 12 new, permanent jobs created. The store will be open seven days a week and offers “a fast, fun and friendly shopping experience,” Davis said.
Davis said the store will be similar to other Dollar Trees stores found in Alabama and will feature household goods, cleaning products, paper products, food items, seasonal items and more – all for $1 or less.

The South Alabama Regional Airport Authority recently was notified that the defense contract which allows it to provide refueling services for military aircraft was renewed thro-ugh March 2015.
The contract could mean as much as $11 million in revenue for the local facility.
Jed Blackwell, airport co-manager, said the contract equates to approximately 3.3 million gallons of jet fuel to be provided for the military.
“This contract award will potentially allow our airport to have the financial stability that we have envisioned for several years,” Blackwell said. “Funds generated from these fuel sales will allow our airport to be very active in economic development and pursuing both federal and state grants to improve our airport facilities.”
Blackwell said the contract is tied directly to the 21 Airport Authority employees who work hard daily to assure that the needs of military men and women are met here in South Alabama.
“Our airport fuels approximately 60 helicopters daily, requiring often times more than 5,000 gallons of fuel per day,” Blackwell said. “It goes without saying that we take a lot of pride in our work and that we welcome these soldiers with open arms. Without the hard work of our staff this contract award would not have been possible.”
The SARA contract is with the Defense Logistics Agency Energy in Ft. Belvoir, Va.
The City of Andalusia’s Department of Leisure Services will hold a supplemental registration, tryout and possible draft for any boys ages 9-12 that are interested in playing in the Cal Ripken baseball league at the Andalusia Sports Complex on Mon., March 14.
The registration portion will be at 5:30 p.m.; the tryouts will be at 6 p.m.; and the possible draft will be at 6:30 p.m.
This will be the final opportunity for boys that want to play this season.

A sign went up this week announcing that Dollar Tree will locate in Andalusia, next door to the Winn Dixie in the former Burke’s outlet.
Officials in the corporate office have not responded to requests for information about the new store made by the newspaper in the past two weeks.
